Over a 4 day period, the Firefighters from Jewett City assisted the community with numerous calls from pumping basement to evacuations. Alot of hours were put in while firefighters were away from their families, so thank you to all for dedicating your precious time when the community needed us most.
Firefighters learned about SCBA and how to change bottles in the dark. Also, firefighter carries and drags to get fellow firefighters out of a building if they call a mayday
On Sunday 1/31/10 we held a cold water and ice rescue training on Ashland Pond. Norwich Dive Team provided the instructors. Instructors were Chief Tim Jenks and Tom Ladd from Taftville FD and Scott Ellis from Yantic FD. We trained on rescue techniques and rescuing victims with an ice sled. Also, about safety issues that may arise during a rescue. Everyone showed great team work and we would like to make this a yearly training. Griswold Ambulance also participated and assisted with obtaining vitals and warming the firefighters after being in the water.
On Monday Jan 25th at 2317 the Jewett City Fire Dept. was toned out for a structure fire at 124 North Main St. Upon arrival of C56 he reported a working fire in a commercial building. Mutual aid called were Griswold, Lisbon, Voluntown, Taftville, Plainfield, Laurel Hill, Scotland, Griswold Ambulance, Mohegan Tribal FAST Team. The JCFD Auxillary supplied cold and hot drinks and also snacks to firefighters on scene. Also assisting was the Providence canteen, State Police, State Fire Marshalls Office, DEP, JC electric and Water Co.'s, American Ambulance Rehab. A sincere thank you goes out to all surrounding towns and all other services that assisted at our scene. Everyone did a great job.
